It was a good weekend to be a ‘Pack fan (it’s about time). Not only did UNC-CH lose to the Twerps on Saturday afternoon, but State played pretty well and manged to sweak by ‘The U’ in OT on Saturday night. That game was one of the better games I can remember at the RBC Center. Sadly I agree with posters over at StateFansNation
…I think tonight’s win over Miami may have represented the most exciting win in ESA/RBC Center history. Last year’s win over Carolina clearly ranks as the “best” win by nature of their national ranking, the style & excitement in which the game was played and the fact that it was Carolina. But, tonight’s win at the buzzer bests anything else that I can remember in the RBC.
.
Not only was JJ’s tip-in of Gavin’s missed layup wild, but the steal of the Miami in-bounds pass and subsequent lay-up happened so quickly that many in the area missed it. So many were turning to fellow fans and celebrating the play that they forgot to watch the rest of the game unfold. Of course a bunch of people that left as OT stared also missed out. Sure some people are from out of town and need to drive a long way home(bla bla bla), but I’ve NEVER understood why people leave a game early when the outcome is unknown just to, “beat the traffic.” My roommate for 3 years in college said that he never stayed until the end of the UNC-CH football game with his dad. This is understandable from that fan base (since most of those games are over LONG before the final gun sounds), but I expect better from ‘Pack fans.
When I think back to all the years of watching HeWhoShouldNotBeNamed-coached teams and their ability to blow a lead late the game or roll-over in OT, I guess I can’t blame some State fans for thinking that the New ‘Pack would be the same as the Old ‘Pack. It seems like the players have already gotten over this attitude, let’s hope the fans figure it out sometime soon too.
